Question for moms:
What do you think about the laundry soap made especially for babies? It is necessary? My thinking is that I survived without my clothes being washed in special detergent, so why do we need it now? Is it just another baby item that the media tries to convince us that we need? Let me know your thoughts! Thanks!

Okay, I think it's highly uneccessary. :)
I was wondering the same thing the other day. I think it's probably something that is not a necessity.
Nora had bad rashes for the first couple of months when we tried to use regular detergent. I used the Dreft, and she didn't have the skin rash when we used it...plus I LOVE the smell of it. It makes them smell like a baby longer. I can use regular detergent now, but really the first four months she always had a rash when I tried the regular.
A cheaper alternative IF your baby has rashes is any sensitive unscented detergent. Both our girls were fine and Brian does have super sensitive skin.
i've never used any special detergent for owen.
It depends on your babies skin. I would try an unscented sensitive soap that you can wash all of your clothes in. Because if your baby is sensitive to detergents, then he will get rashes when you hold him against your chest. I never had a problem.
I just planned on going out and buying some if Amelia got a rash or anything from normal detergent. But she didn't so we were good.
I always do for the first few months but I really think it depends on the baby. My first two had eczema and just really sensitive skin. I would be more apt to buy it rather then buying specialty detergent for everyone (if it's more expensive anyway) since if you just use the dreft/baby all/etc for the baby clothes it'll last you forever.
I thought the exact same thing! I just figured I'd use the normal stuff and if she got a rash, I'd switch. Nothing ever happened with Zoey, so we didn't ever make the switch. I would just wash all her clothes and blankets before she wears them. Good luck! :)
Neither of my kids needed it. Probably depends on the baby, but I would try the regular stuff first before spending the money!
I agree that you should only get some if your baby gets a rash or seems to have sensitive skin & have reactions to your normal detergent. Lexi has been fine with our regular stuff, but one of my sister's boys needs the special stuff. It just depends on the baby. But I wouldn't waste the money or time washing her stuff separately from yours if you don't have to.
I think it does depend on if you baby has very sensitive skin (most babies have sensitive skin..some have extremely sensitive skin). However, using the unscented and dye free laundry detergent works just as well as "baby detergent." you can get a big thing of it at Costco or Sam's and wash your clothes in it as well.
My crazy ex-sister in law Alecia was insane with baby laundry detergent. It's a rip off and over priced. SCAM!
